Attention

May 28, 2023    Rev. Dr. Scooter Ward

Time is the great equalizer. It comes to us in moment by moment chunks. We all have a choice in how we spend it. Motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar has been quoted as saying, "Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four-hour days." Our attention is a precious commodity. Companies pay millions to get it and keep it. Marketing algorithms have become so robust and proficient they can predict our patterns of behavior over time and develop strategies that are curated to capture and hold our attention, or rather to distract us. We have to be on guard, so we will not be robbed of the non-renewable resource of time. This is so important to the lives of Christians and their roles in the Church. As we will see today from the book of Colossians, we must choose to set our minds and hearts on Kingdom purposes as it relates to living Christ-centered lives. Only then will we be confident of using our time wisely.
